There are many advantages and disadvantages of social media in a workplace. This blog is going to outline the benefits and potential issue mixing personal social media with workplace relationships. Furthermore, I will also explain how to use social media appropriately in workplace.

There are many benefits of social media:

-Social media can help strengthen employees professional relationship.
Employees can strengthen relationship with people outside the company. More and better connection means better sales opportunity and new ideas.

-Employees can utilize social media to solve a work problem.
Social media can be used to find the answer to a question employees cannot answer. Sometimes outside perspective is needed and social media provides the means for it.

- Social media can strengthen the relationship between coworkers.
Employees can use social media to interact with each other and build better relationship. A stronger relationships means a cohesive and better workplace environment.

Even though the benefits of social media are great for the company and the employees, there are some drawbacks of social medias in workplace as well, they are:

-Lack of control over corporate content.
Companies do not have complete control of what their employees post, which may lead to reputation damage.

-Lower employee productivity.
Excessive use of social media by employees can lead to lower productivity.

-Data theft or leakage.
Employees access to social media can lead to data theft or leakage, companies need to install anti-virus and anti-malware to prevent data leakage.

Here are some tips on how to use social media in workplace:

- Always be polite and professional in your posts.
- Do not spread gossip and contents
- Report negative and harmful content to the appropriate department
- Do not share personal or company's information
-Abide to company's social media policy


In conclusion, I believe that social media benefits outweigh the potential issues that it can create. Employees need to know the policy and follow the procedure of their company when using social media in workplace.
